There are other skating blogs?

Help me out. A couple of my favorite skating blogs, like Ice Mom, Axels Loops and Spins, and Mr. Zamboni man, have stopped writing!

Here's what I'm still reading, find me some more and I'll add them to my resources page!

A former show skater with an attitude: Ice Charades
Hockey Mom with toe picks: Ice Pact
A champions' mom (if your kid competes, read this): Life on the Edge
A former champion's mom:  Raising Skaters
An adult skater with a sense of humor: The Ice Doesn't Care
The Executive Director of the Professional Skaters Association: Over the Edge
There are skate dads?: l.a. skate dad
Currently in archive, but really worth the read: Ice Mom
Indepth videos on skating issues and skills: ManleyWoman Skatecast
Skating mom with a wicked outlook: Josette Plank

I'd really love to learn about a skating blog like Mr. Zamboni Man and Axels Loops and Spins that goes beyond fangirl/fanboy gushing and party-line regurgitation.

What do you read, and why? Include the link!

  1. I read numerous skating blogs, mostly competition based -
Flutzing Around by Tony Wheeler - http://www.flutzingaround.com/
because he does unbiased reviews of competitions, and also judges performances himself to compare how he would score a skater as compared to the judges, etc. He's also got the eligibility lists for the minimum scores to 4CC and Worlds this year which is worth seeing :)

    Aunt Joyce's Ice Cream Stand - http://auntjoycesicecreamstand.blogspot.com/
Snarky but very amusing and honest when he posts about skating. (You may have to shift through gymnastics posts as well though as he posts about both).

    Morozombie - http://morozombie.blogspot.com
A bit like Aunt Joyce but more revolving around Morozov's skaters and less snarky. Also equally amusing.

    The Rinkside Cafe - http://rinksidecafe.wordpress.com/
    Mostly predictions and competition reviews.

  2. I'm an adult who just started figure skating for the first time at age 40. I've been having fun blogging about it here:

I'd love to hear about other adult skaters out on the ice!

  3. I have to second Aunt Joyce's Ice Cream Stand (though this may make me a terrible person). Very snarky, but also very honest commentary. Aunt Joyce is not afraid to go to the heart of the matter and point out exactly what is wrong with everyone and everything. The sad thing is, I almost always totally agree. I just don't have the guts to post it on the internet. If you are looking for heart-warming tales about new skaters falling in love with the sport this isn't the blog to read. If you want sugar-free commentary about where the sport is going and what the skaters at the top are doing this is the best blog out there. I will say the blog tends to shift between exploding with entries (sometimes 2-5 a day) and months of inactivity. It's worth the wait though. I also love when he posts skating and gymnastics routines from the old days - it is sadly obvious how the new scoring systems in ice skating and gymnastics have sucked beauty, perfection, and artistry from both sports.

  4. I really enjoy www.skatejournal.com, written by an adult skater. She is not always a consistent poster though.

  5. Huge fan of the Manley Woman Skatecast! Great podcasts to download to your ipod or phone. I listen to them while I work overnight shifts at a big box store. Also great for walks and commutes in the car. She asks great questions of her guests and I have learned a lot about the skating and skaters from her skatecasts.

I especially loved the interviews with JoJo Starbuck, Ron Ludington, Frank Carroll, Mr. Nicks, Slavka Kohout and Amy Hughes, Mom to the Hughes clan. The interview with Tai Babilonia was very eye-opening. Cross your fingers and hope she gets her much-hoped-for interview with Dick Button. I'm sure it will be great, and we might find out how he feels about skaters who skate to Carmen. (If you listen to her skatecasts, you'll understand why I ended with this.)

  14. I'm a bit late here, but Morozombie (a blog I love) does not revolve around Morozov's skaters. The name might be a bit misleading, but the posts there tend to be about general topics or various skaters. It's also very entertaining.

  15. Good catch. I just read the top few posts, and they were all Morozov skaters. Description fixed!
